Who or what is Team Barbershop?
In our lives and careers, many of us hear the word “program” and think, “Oh brother, here comes another unproven top-down initiative.”
Team Barbershop is NOT a program.
We don’t represent the BHS, SAI, HI, WBQA, or any single District, Region, Area, chapter or lodge. Led by BHS Performance Judge Paul Ellinger, Team Barbershop is simply barbershoppers helping barbershoppers excel in the areas that matter most: growing membership, elevating vocal performance, boosting member retention, and building a thriving chapter culture.
We’d love to grow our chapter

Wow, do they ever! For over a decade, 100% of the chapters that have followed through with Team Barbershop’s approach have grown. Even better? We’ve streamlined the process. The average chapters are 240% of their former size — in just 90 days!
How does Team Barbershop do it?
It’s too much to cover in a couple of sentences, but when you dive into these concepts, you’ll find yourself saying:
👉 “You know, that actually makes so much sense.”
👉 “YES! That’s what I’ve been saying for years!”
For example, Paul recently shared that there are really only two effective ways people join barbershop:
- 70% are personally invited or encouraged by someone (a barbershopper, friend, family member, or coworker) to attend a rehearsal.
- 30% hear our music, say “WOW, I want to do THAT!”, and look for a group online or respond to an invitation.
99% of the people in the room fell into one of those two categories.
“So, if there are only two effective ways people join,
why are we wasting time on anything else?”
Makes sense, right?

While we honor our traditions, sticking to old approaches is what brought us to where we are and our current trajectory. This isn’t about returning your group to “the good old days”—because if you don’t change the underlying approach, any growth is temporary. Sound familiar? Team Barbershop wants something better for you: ongoing, sustainable growth.

Zero. Zip. Nada! We aren’t selling anything. There is no financial obligation, and no financial benefit to us. It really is just barbershoppers helping barbershoppers.
